My four year old daughter is very impressed with this toy. She likes the fact that the makers of this set gave her two small wooden knights in armor and two small horses to help her imagine that they are gaurding Rapunzel as she sits waiting for her prince in one of the taller towers. There are enough pieces and accessories to build a nice sized castle. A picture on the box it comes in gives a few ideas on building but really, any child would have no need for encouragement to play this toy. There is no need. *I* even wanted to play with it!

The educational value is priceless. My daughter has told stories based on what she built, uses science and math concepts to build, and there are no limits on her imagination. Socially, it is great when more kids join in. I might get another set just to build bigger castles and towers for Rapunzel and her dragon friends.:)

I like the fact that it is very sturdy, very nice to look at (It looks beter than the picture - if that is possible), and introduces so many ways to play. Also, it comes in its own wooden storage box- something I was not expecting. The wood is very solid feeling and it looks great. I am very impressed with these blocks.

We got these blocks for our 15 month old and they are great! I love that the blocks display the upper and lower case, and that the pictures on the sides of the blocks start with the correct letter. Some letter blocks just have random pictures. Great size for little hands too, and fun for kids to stack. I would definitely recommend these blocks.

This is a great set of blocks! I was really glad to find blocks that have pictures that correspond with the letters on the blocks--so many just have random pictures and letters on each block. The tray is not very useful in our house--we just use a bucket to put the blocks in when we're finished. I only wish this set had more blocks so that we could make more words. Other than that this is a must for a house with toddlers!

These are the best toy I have ever gotten my girls in my opinion. They are really vintage looking and I love the designs on them and the colors are so great. They are also the perfect size and not a choking hazard at all! I was worried about that because I ordered them for my 8 month old, but it is not an issue. You will love these blocks! I wish I could find more awesome vintage type toys like these. All the electronic toys need batteries and just don't feel the same.

Bought this for the grandkids to play with at my house when they're over. It is high quality, made of thick wooden pieces, well-made, good quality paint. It comes in its own wooden tray to hold all the pieces when play is over. The construction of the farm is a bit of a puzzle, but a diagram is included.

HABA makes high quality blocks which are pleasing to the eye and satin-smooth. The wood is strong and resists dents/dings. Each shape is designed to fit with the others to make attractive structures.

The shapes included in the Extra Large Starter Set are interesting enough to encourage children to play and build for hours. My husband and I cannot resist helping!

I'm fortunate enough to live close to a toy store in Germany that carries HABA products and picked these up for my 11 month old. They are basic in a brilliant way and keep my son fascinated and will probably do so for a while yet. Another plus is that they are handcrafted with more natural than man-made materials, so essentially safe of babies to put in their mouths. While HABA products are somewhat expensive (I have spent more that $300 dollars on them) I do not regret a single purchase and I am glad to support handmade craftsmanship (and the healthy development of my son).

i docked one star because when my baby bangs 2 blocks together, she sometimes ends up hitting her fingers - and because these are made of wood, i'm worried that can hurt. although when she's tried throwing them they haven't gone very far at all.

I bought this toy for my niece when she was about 16 months old. She loved it. The pictures, the sounds. Three months later, she's grown with the blocks. Before, she lacked the dexterity to orient them in three dimensions so make the animals match up. Now, she can handle three dimensional movement, no problem, and her challenge is to get the front and back to match up in the right directions. She knows what animals they are , knows how to make the sound of all of them (woof woof!), and when a pig or a cow shows up in another book, that she can go over, get the blocks and arrange them to make the sound. She. Loves. Them. Melissa and doug - two thumbs way up.

Honestly. Are people ignorant and just negative at every given opportunity? What's with such horrid reviews of this product? One, Melissa & Doug has the BEST customer service. If your sound blocks don't give the desired noise, call M&D. They'll send you new ones free of charge. Seriously. (They very happily replaced my train puzzle bc it didn't make the requisite "whoo whoo" noise.) Two, I love a puzzle that has only two pieces. What parent wouldn't?? And, finally, this toy really does challenge younger children. We had it forever, and my son always loved to help me put the pieces together. At 20 months, he assembled his first match on his own - much to his and my surprise and delight. He now loves to make all the matches, many times over. This puzzle is definitely more of a challenge than the ones w/the corresponding picture or shape under each piece (a lot of M&D puzzles).

I love this toy no little pieces too lose - fun for infant to toddler. Makes great sounds. My youngest has enjoyed it at 1 month (the sounds) and my oldest now 3.5 still loves it. An great easy introduction to puzzles for toddlers and a great introduction to animals for infants. Win win! Not to mention its cute - I can display it instead of hide in with our plethora of plastic toys.

Just awful. I threw it out!

It was purchased for my four year old grand daughter. I sat down to build with her as I remembered Tinkertoy and loved it so much from my childhood.The holes in the circular shapes were all irregular in size and it was frustrating finding the rods that would fit in. I should have sent it back for a refund. This is nothing like the original tinkertoy in quality or construction.

I rated it as one star because it would not accept a perfect zero.

I remember this toy being fun to play with when I was a kid. Now we received one of these sets as a gift for my three year old son. The first couple of times we played with it it was pretty good. After that, a lot of the pieces don't stay together any more. Now I don't like to play with it. If we manage to build something it's just not sturdy and my son gets very upset when it falls apart.

My 3 1/2 year old grandson and I were looking for something to do and found our old box of Tinkertoys on the shelf in the closet. We had soooo much fun! After we got done making things, we broke everything and he started all over again by himself -- making all sorts of gadgets and gizmos. Now, every time he visits he wants to get the Tinkertoys out. The only problem is keeping his younger brother occupied with something else because Tinkertoys are definitely for "big kids", 3 1/2 and up.

I purchased this Classic Jumbo Set for an older grandson a couple of years ago and I will be buying another set again later this year. It is a great set with enough pieces for one child to have a great time.

Tinkertoys are great! They let kids use their imagination and they can become so many different things depending on the child's interests. I played with Tinkertoys, my kids played with Tinkertoys, and now my grandkids enjoy them. Everyone should own a set of Tinkertoys.

This is such a great idea, but it is impossible to sucessfully fill in several of the patterns because the pattern blocks are rounded and not the same shape as the picture you are supposed to match. It is only a matter of millimeters but in the geometric patterns, that makes a big difference. This has been very frustrating for my 2 and 4 year old children because they see what should fit and it will not fit. We love Melissa and Doug toys but this is one that needs some changes.

After only a few uses, the paint is chipping off the edges of the pieces. Also, the pieces get stuck in the frame, under the lip. Like, really stuck. I'm all for the kid figuring out how to fix problems on her own, but this one is just annoying. I had to use a screwdriver to get one out. Seems like the issue could have been avoided with a slightly different design.

Pattern blocks are wonderful manipulatives for preschool- and kindergarden-aged children. They help to develop fine motor skills and mathematical thinking. This set is wonderful in that the magnetic backing on the blocks helps them to stay put, so a child's creations are not so easily skewed by a random bump. The tray which holds the pattern templates seems sturdy and easy to use. Both my two-year-old and five-year-old have a great time playing with this set.

My one complaint about this particular set is the packaging. The plastic carrying case out-gasses horribly for the first several days, and as it airs out, it really stinks! I would highly recommend putting it outside or in the garage while it out-gasses. I'm not sure what kind of plastic this is, but I wish that Melissa and Doug selected a more earth- and child-friendly alternative to use as a travel case. This one issue is enough for me to give this product just 4 stars. Otherwise, I'd give it 5 stars for being a great, open-ended and educational toy.

Megnets are very light it is easy to move they don't stay on strongly. the paper whole set is not made as strong and durable as I thought they should for a three years old......not the best ideas for cars since megnetic pieces do not stay on well and it will fall in your car. They should have use more megnetic power in it.

We love these blocks. Our daughter started to play with these blocks at the age of four months. She would sit in her peapod and knock them over or just gum them. I love Melissa and Doug products, which is one reason I chose this nesting block set. It looked like a quality set. My two year old loved playing with them, but unfortunately, after only 2 weeks, 2 of the blocks came apart in pieces. I have tried to glue them but they simply come apart again. Also, they do have an unpleasant chemical smell that has lingered even now-almost 6 weeks after I purchased them. I think it may be the finish...? Also, if your child likes to knock the blocks around or may throw them, they are much heavier (and potentially damaging!) than cardboard nesting blocks. I do like them still, just wish they were a little more durable and didn't fall apart like they did!

I ordered this toy for my oldest two children (almost 2 and just 3). They've been enjoying it ever since it came out of the box. The whole thing is well constructed and stores easily. The puzzles make it fun for the kids to identify shapes and colors and place them into context. It is beneficial that two triangles combine to make a square the same size as the square piece and two squares make a rectangle. The puzzle boards are two sided conveniently doubling the number of puzzles to complete. Given some of the Melissa and Doug reviews expressing concern over construction and value, I was a little apprehensive to purchase. However, this toy is worth the cost and will last until my youngest is able to enjoy it.

I can't speak to the entertainment/educational value of this toy. Truth be told I purchased the blocks to spell out my child's name for a maternity photo shoot. I really love the blocks and the fact that you get 50 not just the standard 26. The first night we opened this, my 4.5 year old played with it for 3 hours straight, which was very unusual for his 1/2 hour attention span. I love the fact it has endless possibilities for designs. He liked the pre-design boards, but likes creating his own designs better. We also had the same problem as an earlier review about the pieces not staying together, but I use a cookie sheet with a silpat (Silicone Non-Stick Baking Mat) under it so it will not slip. We could have also used foam non stick sheets (sold with the contact paper in a department store).

This is a nice, colorful toy, but when it comes to play, it does not work so well. The blocks do not stay on the pattern and slides away with slightest shake, so kid has to be very cautious when placing them. This is a fun game for 4 or 5 and older. The concept is easy for younger ones to learn, but the boards are slippery and too hard for a smaller child to deal with on their own. It comes with a box to hold everything, but no top, so it is really not a storage box since the small pieces can easily spill out. Also a few of the puzzle boards have buckled slightly since opening the box a month ago.

I bought this because of the good reviews. However, this is one of the few purchases that my experience is way different than the review.

1. For $45, my 3 year old played with it for 15 minutes then moved on to old toys. The blocks in the heavy huge and to me very unnecessary wooden box is just too few and too boring. There is not much you can create with the few pieces of blocks.

2. Way over priced. $45 for 15 minutes of fun? I love most baby toys. This is the one I really have no interest at first (second and third) glance.

3. A small incidence - One block my son knocked down fell on my toe. I was in severe pain for 10 seconds. Imagine it fell on your baby's toe/finger.

If you don't care paying $45 and you buy 10 sets of these, I can imagine this is totally fun. You can build a few projects with the piece. But definitely one box gives you not much to excite about.

BTW, I have to complement the quality of the wood. Very smooth, sturdy and beautiful

I'm not a big fan of Melissa and Doug in general and think Plan Toys are generally better designed and have a nicer, clean look. Also, I know Melissa and Doug have had recalls (I think there was a stacking train with bad paint), and that a lot of their toys are manufactured in China (including said stacking train).

But I figured, hey, unit blocks are pretty simple and require little design input, they're unpainted, and Melissa and Doug have a box of 60 for $ [...] (the Plan Toys pack was smaller, more expensive and didn't come with a nice storage box) -- they can't mess this up, can they? YAY!! They didn't! They're awesome!

Also, I don't know if this will hold true for M&D unit blocks in the future, but the box I got said it was manufactured in Thailand (like Plan Toys). Double YAY!

I hardly write any reviews but this block set is simply too good. I bought one set for my boy when he turned 4. He has been creating all kinds of structures since then - from a few blocks on top of each other at first to a beautiful building with an elevator today!

I like the fact that these are just plain blocks because it enables expression without limitation. I only wish it comes with a few more shapes.

Any way, he is becoming 5 in a couple of months time. I will buy him another set then.

I found these to be so small it took a lot of patience and time to build larger structures. My son's creations would take a while to build, then fall over easily. My son and I had a few opportunities to play with larger blocks and it was so much fun to assemble huge, more stable towers, quickly. I gave all our little blocks away and bought the Melissa and Doug set of 60. We now have a daughter who is almost one and both children use them daily in different ways. If I could do it all over again I would have saved money and began with the set of 60. We are considering a second set of the larger blocks since they are so much fun and well worth the money. [...]

The blocks are made of weak plastic and do not lock togther. I purchased them so my two year old could build a big castle or towers as he does with smaller blocks. These do not lock together so the structure never stays up well. Also the limited tyoes of blocks in the package don't allow you to create anything much.

I gave these blocks to a friend who has a one year old. I believe younger children would benefit from them more but even they might become fustrated becuase the blocks don't go together unless you do it perfectly.

I ordered these for my son's first birthday but unfortunately they didn't arrive in time. Even though this item says eligible for Prime shipping, Beware. It's only eligible for Prime Standard Shipping. Not two-day shipping. Anyway, once they arrived they were great. We immediately starting building and he loves knocking down what we create.

I know that some people said that there should be more pieces to build with, but we found it to be enough. We sat on the floor creating many different varieties of buildings and my son had so much fun knocking them to the ground.

The pieces are also perfect for our one year old. They're big so I don't have to worry about him chocking and since they're hollow and light weight I don't have to worry about him getting hurt when he knocks done the towers. There are no sharp corners either.

As far as them not snapping toghether, I like this feature. For my son's age if they snapped together and he couldn't get them apart easily they would frustrate him and he wouldn't want to play with them. I think that they're designed very well. I would highly recommend these blocks for children who are too young for Mega Blocks and Legos. This is a great set for your child's first blocks.

He takes all the blocks out, dumps them and trys to put them back in. (Good concept to teach in and out) He loves the different cubes with it.

The pieces are easy for me to disassemble, my son has yet to figure out the back part of the truck comes apart. There are only 3 larger pieces (other than the blocks) which come apart.

We received this gift for my son's 3rd birthday and would definitely rate it one of the better gifts if not one of the best. We have received more complicated marble run games in the past but never opened it because they seemed so complicated. This was perfect for a 3 year old. The concept of things sliding down is straightforward for him to grasp. The various pieces, especially the funnel and slides with fans that turn when the marble passes through are his favorites. I like that the idea of needing to build pieces taller or shorter is achieved easily from the stackable legs.

My only wish is that it stayed together better. The legs could stick together a little better so that the structure is more sturdy. I know this is a fine line to balance as you want the kids to be able to take it apart and design something new--our problem is that we seem to be rebuilding every few minutes! As a result, we do stick to simpler structures using only a few of the gadgets at a time vs. the full scale setup as shown in the picture.

How fast will the marbles go through a tall vertical run? a long diagonal run? etc. The transparency of the tubes also lets the child view the marbles speeding down their path. My son had seen a marble run just like this one at our Children's Museum, so when I saw one available, and what a great value it was, I didn't hesitate to buy it. He has sat in our living room racing marbles for hours, and he does enjoy taking it apart and putting it back together. Some care has to be taken with the tall base pieces - they come in 2 pieces and are held together with a peg. Since my son likes to take things apart, he tried taking these pieces apart as well - which they are not designed to do once they are assembled. We are resourceful at being able to fix things like this, so it has not detracted from our enjoyment, but it may to others as it is a bit of a flaw in the durability of the product. It would also be nice to have a set that comes with a box to put all the little pieces in, since my 4 year old isn't great at assigning "places" for his things, and the cardboard box it came in doesn't satisfy his need to see his stuff. Anyway, we all love the toy, it was the hit of his birthday, and we intend to expand our collection as he gets older.

I am crazy about mine! It's a showstopper and a great conversation starter. It also is enhancing my ability to add quickly and accurately.

I DO wish it also showed the date, though.

I am a female with a tiny wrist, and the watch is, indeed, massive. But, the size seems to emphasize the fine quality of the stainless steel bezel. The lighted diodes against the green motherboard face give the watch a very attractive and distinctive look.

I cannot go anywhere without getting admiring comments.

It also keeps excellent time. I often check it against my radio-controlled watch for accuracy.

When I ordered it, I thought I would receive a cute, gimicky, but flimsy and overpriced item.

We bought the 500 zoob for Christmas this year. My boys were introduced to this at my brother's house. What I find really great about it is if your kids love legos but you still have small children around and don't want the chocking hazard zoob is perfect for you. We have ALL played with it, my husband and myself included. Great toy...seriously great.

One and only setback that we have had is we bought the 500 zoob and the case connector broke. I am now going to try and see what we can do about it. This is a non-issue with the smaller amounts since the boxes that hold them are different. This is the only reason I put 4 stars for the durability. It is not a reflection on the actual toy.

I received this gift for Christmas and have had loads of fun builing the different items listed in the instructions. I've had these in the past and a few have broken so store them away so no one can step on them and be careful when snapping or unsnapping them. Now that I'm older (I'm 11) I care for them and play with them more carefully. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that likes to build things!

My twin girls received a set of 32 of these as a gift for their 2nd birthday. They love them and play with them all the time, however there aren't enough to share. When I searched for them and saw how much they cost I understood why the gift giver had only given one set, and I decided to hold off for awhile. Now they are turning four, and I just bought a box of 100. They have played with them more and more over the years, and I really think it will be money well spent.

My 2-year-old son, my husband and I *love* playing with these. We play with them nearly every day. My son likes to build garages and tunnels and put his trains and cars in them. Since they do not lock together, it's easy to open the doors to put cars in and take them out.

I can see him learning about geometry and spatial relations with these when he's older... two right triangles make a square, six isosceles triangles make a hexagon, etc.

We received these as a gift. I, personally, would be hard pressed to pay $50 for this set of very simple plastic and magnet tiles, but they are such a good toy, I probably would anyway.

I got this for my 3 year old, she loved it from day one. It was one of the first toys she would play with for long periods of time, on her own. She figured things out with it, how to create new things, shapes I wouldn't have thought of. And you can see that there is a spatial recognition going on, since certain triangles fit some places and others don't. It's great to see her need another square and grab two right triangles. A year later, she still loves them. I will say this, because I haven't seen it elsewhere, when we first got them she pinched her fingers a few times between the tiles. I have too. The tiles click together and are pretty strong. I wouldn't say it's a big deal, but it does hurt (doesn't break the skin). After a few times, you learn how to handle them so they don't get you.

My daughter loved playing with these tiles at her friends house so I bought her some at Christmas. She's three, therefore she gets frustrated easily when they fall over, but besides that, the magnet tiles are one of her preferred toys out of the hundreds in her room.

I got these Magna Tiles for a 4 year old for Christmas. After seeing all the 5 star reviews I figured this is a no brainer purchase and I was happy to buy something that I thought would be a huge hit as a gift for a 4 year old. When the box came in the mail it was light and thin, like a standard box of chocolates, not substantial at all. That was the first warning that this was not going to be a great gift but I put it aside and hoped what was inside would be great.

On Christmas morning he opened it up and I was so underwhelmed and disappointed by what was inside. It looked like just a few plastic colored tiles with magnets inside the edges, nothing special. I kept saying to my sister "I spent $___ just for this?!". I felt they should have cost 1/5th of the price considering what they are, just plastic tiles with magnets in the edges.

The boy played with them for maybe 2 minutes and he built a few boxes and everything else he built fell apart so he got bored and went off to play with more fun toys.

That was a few months ago. I checked in and he still barely plays with them now. And he loves to build things.

The structure of whatever you're building falls apart all the time. Theres nothing to lock them to each other to maintain the shape of what youre building. And the tiles themselves are lifeless with no real character. I think Legos would be a lot more fun because legos have character and you can lock them to each other so what you build holds together.

With Magna Tiles its like building a deck of cards and if you move it a little they fall apart.

What 4 year old is delicate with their toys? None I've ever met.

I was very disappointed with these tiles and I wish I could return them. I guess they make nice coasters to put your drinks on. Expensive plastic coasters.

I use these in an office environment with all kinds of children. Being light and soft, they are harmless, which is perfect. If a child has a tantrum and throws a block there is no danger to themselves, windows, furniture or other children. Toddlers, however, often cannot resist biting the squishy, dense foam, so that after five years every block has at least one bite mark. The foam also expands and contracts unevenly with changes in temperature and humidity, so they tend to warp a little, creating additional building challenges for children inclined to build taller structures. That feature has not really been a major problem. They have bright colors and popular shapes so that diligent parents are asking toddlers, to name colors and shapes. Overall, I am very pleased with these blocks. Kids love them. They are used constantly.

"Not enough bricks!" 2009-05-20

I bought two fifty piece sets for my son. I was very disappointed to find that only 8 out of fifty pieces were eight point rectangular bricks. The set includes 26 four point squares, 12 two point triangles, 4 four point triangles, and only 8 rectangular bricks. It's very frustrating to build with these blocks because the tiny blocks don't have any spanning capability. The slanted pieces are only useful to top off. The blocks are soft, so they don't lock like a hard plastic lego. These blocks don't join well, and there are too few bricks, so it almost impossible to make anything creative. This is honestly the most disapointing and expensive purchase I have ever made. The rectangular bricks are not available for purchase separately.

This is a very small set, and it comes in a nice little plastic box that locks. My daughter loves to sit in the workshop with her dad and use the scrap wood to build castles, so we figured she would love this one for inside. She does, but we should have bought more than one. It is a small set, and there is no instruction on building the castle they show. There is a photo, but it doesn't show the back. Which is fine, we have imaginations. But my daughter likes to build things by instruction (she is into legos as well) along with using her own ideas. When you are trying to build the castle in the photo you think you don't have all the pieces, but you do, you just can't see the back of the castle to know what pieces are actually being used. It is a cute set, very nicely made, but with the small amount of pieces there isn't too much you can do. I would have bought at least 2 to start with, then maybe more later. We ended up using these with the wood block set we bought our son and she gets more use out of them, more things to build. Good set, nicely made, great storage case. I recommend it.

These blocks are great. I bought these for my 14 month old daughter. I thought I would be building and she would just be handling them and knocking them down. But she was able to build with these. Unlike other "beginning" blocks, these lock together like Legos but are big enough that they aren't a choking hazard. I highly reccomend them.

we love megablocks at our house!! our son is 1 and these blocks never make it back into the bag. they are permanent on our living room floor. every morning my husband will make some structure with all the blocks and when my son gets home from school he toddles straight for the tower and knocks it down. lots of fun!

they help with fine motor skills, counting, colors, creativity....the list goes on.

they stay together well enough to build things, but come apart very easily for little hands. my son is still just putting one block on top of the other and then clapping his hands with pride, but these are something that mom, dad and baby all play with together. my son's favorite is knocking over whatever we build.

i don't have enough good things to say about megablocks!!!

I got this toy at a yard sale for [...] and was going to pass it onto a friend if she was interested. I found this link to email her to see if she wanted it and that's when I saw the manufacter's price. I was BLOWN AWAY! I seriously would have though it cost about [...]

Did my little one play with it? yeah, sometimes. Did it entertain her for a bit at various points? Yeah... about 10 minutes at a time around 9 months and then one year (we rotate the toys to make them feel like "new"). Is it worth the money? I would say no. She has been far more entertained with toys that are a tenth of the price. And this is a little girl who LOVES plastic toys that make music.

Needless to say, having seen the price I'll pull it out again tonight to see if she's interested in it as a 15 month old again before passing it on. But her past enthusiasm wasn't enough to make me think it was really worth keeping in the rotation given the size of the toy.

I bought this for my 2 year old and she has rarely played with it but there are several 1 year olds in our play group who have a blast with it every week. Either she was too old to enjoy it when we got it or it's not her style but it is enjoyed by all babies who enter our home. IT is durable and the blocks are great since they are all different. The ones that come with the sets are not as thick and heavy as the ones that you buy seperately and the volume control is nice.

It doesn't come out every day, but it's one of their favorite toys. I just got it out to sell it on Ebay and they're still wanting to play with it. Sure, it can pinch a finger. It has lots of moving parts. But the moving parts are what make it fun!

This is a very dangerous toy. The wheel that spins around if your child does not have a block in their hand they can easily get their wrist or fingers pinched. This can happen from either side. This should have had a safety release for spinning only when there is a peek-a-boo block in the wheel. Other issues is the one item that acts like a see-saw my almost one year old has gotten his fingers pinched so many times under it as it rocks back and forth. Fisher Price could have easily come up with a better design so that there is no space under that rocking mechanism. Don't buy this unless you want countless cries...

For the best toy value you can't beat blocks in general. This is a nice small set with detailed columns, steps and caps. It comes in its own plastic tote with handles (but ours was cracked) for much needed storage. However, I had hoped this would match the dimensions of our existing 1 3/8" Unit blocks (i.e. they were 'mini' unit blocks, scaled to match standard unit blocks) but they do not. Furthermore, they are not even unit dimensions of themselves, but are an odd assortment of sizes. This severely limits the versatility of the blocks for making anything but the pictured parthenon and maybe a few other greek looking facades. Nevertheless, our kids have already found ways to add nice entryways onto larger unit block buildings, though the sizes don't match. Overall, I think your money would be better spent on a standard unit block set (such as Melissa and Doug architectural set or a generic set). Unit blocks are the absolute best toy you will ever buy for your kids.

These are really fun toys. For any child that has spatial acuity, and has passed the need to chew and swallow everything he sees. The range of geometric shapes one can make with these things is amazing. Of course, they overdo the amount of packing material quite a bit, so most of the volume inside the case is air. About half of the remaining volumn is stuff the goes to the landfill.

There are so many magnetix cases and storages, I wasn't sure which to pick. To tell you honestly, this was the best price at the time, so I bought it. It turned out to be a great purchase. It's a great case and comes with 120 pieces that you can store inside with an individual separator that can come out. Flip it over, and it's a metal sheet that you can build on. It has lots of room in it, my son likes to put his "special" stuff in there as well and carries it around the house!

This is a great building block set. It is made and painted in China so I do have some concerns. It is a smaller block set. If you are thinking you are getting the huge 5 inch blocks you had as a kid think again. I bought this for my daughter who is 10 months and she loves it. The colors and shapes fit in her hands well and she likes to sit in a pile of them and play. I know it is a bit young for a block set but I wanted her to start recognizing shapes and colors and this set is perfect. 200 pieces is a massive amount of blocks and the canvas bag is great for storage. Tons of pieces for her to build with and share with friends. I'd recommend this to anyone looking to encourage a creative thinker.

This is a great gift! The blocks were a smaller in size than I expected, the largest being a 3.5 inch long rectangle, but this woerks out great for my 1 yr olds little hands. I did take out about 15-20 of the smallest blocks just until my daughter quits trying to eat them. The tote is a great part of this and is where we keep them stored. This is a great bargain.

Just received the product today. It is as good as it gets for the price. Perfect for my 22 months old to play with. The blocks are just about the right size and weight, the smallest cube is about 1"x1"x1", but if your child is still putting everything in his/her mouth, then some of the pieces could be just slightly smaller than ideal. 98% of the blocks finishes are good, few of the painted pieces are not as perfect as I like them to be, but no serious defects. The bag is made of light weight cotton canvas with zipper closure, the quality is better than expected, the "Maxim" company name is nicely "embroidered" on both sides of the bag. [...]

We bought this set for our son's first birthday. The colors are amazing, very cool! 100 pieces is plenty to build all kinds of towers and I have to admit, me and my husband love to build with these blocks. These are beautiful blocks.

This company makes excellent quality blocks in many languages (Danish, Russian, Hebrew, French, Italian, Spanish, English, Chinese, and even Braille). There are others too.

I have 2 sets of German ones for my son. The wood is hard and sturdy and does not splinter. The blocks are approximately 1.75 inch (or almost 4.5 cm). The German letters are all represented (including Ess-tset and umlauted vowels). The numbers are on some sides, with the German word written below. There are many pictures of animals and each one has the German word below it.

The colors are nice, but not too bright and garish.

The design of etching and drawing is beautiful and well done.

These blocks are built to last and are worth every penny.
